The A379, a key route near Brixton, is temporarily closing overnight for essential drainage and resurfacing work. Starting on February 3rd, 2025, until March 1st, 2025, road crews will be working hard to address long-standing drainage issues and improve the surface of the road. The work means that the stretch between Sungates and The Foxhound Inn will be off-limits each night from 7 PM to 6 AM, weekdays only.

This project, undertaken by Aggregate Industries, is necessary due to significant damage discovered in the drainage system, causing ongoing problems for commuters and locals alike. Poor road conditions had been a persistent concern, and this initiative aims to provide a long-lasting solution.

Understanding the disruption this may cause, a well-marked diversion route guides drivers through alternative paths—taking Elburton Road, Haye Road, Hercules Road, Main Street, Deep Lane, and then moving onto the A38 to Avonwick before returning to the A379 via the B3372 and A3121. This ensures that travel in the area remains as smooth as possible while the work is underway.

Ensuring the safety and convenience of the residents, access to properties within the shutdown zone is possible. Coordination with the on-site team helps residents face minimal disturbance during these late hours. At the same time, emergency services will have unrestricted access throughout the work period. To keep the area clear, overnight parking is prohibited within the construction segment.

This round of improvements aims to alleviate ongoing issues with water overflow and road deterioration, crucial for enhancing safety and travel efficiency in the long term. Although temporary closures like this can be inconvenient, they promise a safer and more reliable roadway for everyone who relies on this vital corridor.
